Alright, first I'm going to start you off with comic books, then I'll post more links below when I find them.

This right here is exactly what you are looking for.

http://en.childrenslibrary.org/ (go to the Spanish section, there are over 150 books to choose from)

Here are some short stories to choose from. Lots of new vocabulary.

Just a warning, the one called Un Noi Ferm com Jo is actually in Catalan. The other five are in Spanish.

you might want to check your local library as well. I was surprised my library has a section of books in Spanish. www.veintemundos.com has magazine articles that you can read yourself or listen to them being read.

Find a book which you have already read and enjoyed in your native language and then read it again in Spanish.

I have found a variety of good books in Spanish on Amazon.com. They offer previews and sample chapters to give you an idea of what to expect. Additionally, using the kindle versions and an app on an iPad, you can link to a dictionary and get instant help by highlighting a word.

One technique I use is to read a chapter, marking sections that seem awkward or difficult. Then I go back, having read the entire chapter and knowing the context, I review and focus on the highlighted text.

I recommend La Busqueda by Blanca Miosi. It is also available in English. Enjoy!
