Weekly Incubator Update: Tracking Progress from January 11th to January 18th

And, the great start for the new year further continues!

What a great progress to report! Each Phase-1 course has made progress. Yes although the Vietnamese course shows no progress here, their progress is by a few decimals indeed. I can tell you that in the recent days, the Incubator chatter has gone up by a few notches and that means a lot of course material is being worked on.

Let me also congratulate the Irish team on the occasion of the graduation of their course to Phase 3! Awesome achievement!

Also, a gentle reminder to Kristine to kindly add the entry for the final two weeks of 2014 to her awesome compilation!

Selam Millet! Hey folks!

As of this week, we are 60% done with the course. That is something to be excited about, right? We also are in the process of inviting a few more contributors. Be on the look out for an update regarding that. On top of all of this, we did a lot of editing this week to make sure that there are as few errors as possible upon our graduation into Beta!

We are looking forward to you all taking our course!

Sevgiler Turkish Team

Folks, do apply if you have the skills and the passion to contribute to any course. You will thoroughly enjoy the experience and the rewards in store for you :)

Progress Update 2014/11/30 -> 2015/01/18

Hi folks,

First of all, allow me to wish everybody an extremely belated Happy New Year. :) I am incredibly sorry for the lack of communication that we showed in these last weeks. I was totally absent over Duolingo and in the Duolingo Incubator, but finally I have further spare time, which means that 1) progress will be faster (a bit) 2) we can finally return to calling these things weekly updates. ;)

Despite my absence, the rest of the team worked and built the course further. It's just they didn't really communicate this progress. Anyways, so let's take a look a the major changes that happened in these last weeks:

\1. We have a tester (-> also means that we're reaching testing phase). :) Let me proudly present you ipattorneyliza. She is not a native Hungarian speaker so she is perfect for testing. She'll do great, we are absolutely sure of that.

\2. The course "skeleton" is finished. That means that we have agreed upon the skills we will fill with words and sentences in the future. Of course, I would like to highlight that the whole tree is incomplete: as of releasing to beta, it will cover about 40% of the book we base it on, and we will add the remaining 60% later, after the first 40% goes live.

\3. We finished building Chapter 8 and started working on Chapter 9, which means that (Chapter 9 included), only 2 chapters left until entering beta. Cool, isn't it? :D

\4. Work on Tips & Notes and more translations per sentence has been accelerated. This is a big thing, as these things are pretty much one of the last steps till leaving the cradle.

And now, arguably the most exciting part, percentages:

  • PUB (percentage until beta) --> 73% (+7)
  • PUC (percentage until completion) --> 26% (+3)

(In case you don't understand what PUB and PUC is, please read our previous updates -- for those reading this in jitengore's post: you can find our previous updates here (scroll down).)

TL;DR Course coming soon; communication with Earth is active again.

Questions are welcome, see you next week. :D

Nitram15, welcome back! You have been missed by many :)

Beta Week 39: Course progress

साप्ताहिक पाठ्यक्रम प्रगति - Weekly Course Progress.

That was a short update! Perhaps a big announcement is in the offing? :)

TL;DR Great all around progress! You would love the profile of the progress wave that you see in the visualized progress chart. Several courses are in their second half of their innings. I expect to see a lot of courses hatching starting this winter and going into spring this year!

The next update is expected on Sunday, 25th of January at 5:00 pm UTC. Please make note of the later time for the next week.

Previous Update 04-Jan to 11-Jan

January 18, 2015

Thanks, Jiten!! Yay!! :D Ukrainian is moving! 9% progress this week. :D It will be out before we know it!

And, of course, Turkish is still moving! In Selcen's and Alex's very competent hands....

Ooh, Romanian! 4%! So exciting, for all those who thought it was dead ;) And Polish, 2%! This is a very exciting week for the incubator, with 2.80% average progress overall! :D And Hungarian, 6%..

I want to try every single one! So many languages, too little time...

January 18, 2015

We will never stop moving! Not when you are this excited!

January 18, 2015

So, the more excited I am the faster you'll move? Because, if that's the case, you would be done by now :D

January 18, 2015

lol if only. We already have a new contributor, so things will speed up soon I am sure. Keep rooting us on!

January 19, 2015

I knew it wasn't dead for a while now. The Romanian team has done a great job communicating their progress. And of course they have two new contributors now, SebastianMolin and AndrewMasa. They have made a big difference to the team. I'm also looking forward to Turkish.

January 18, 2015

We are looking forward to you taking our course more!

January 18, 2015

Yay! Polish is moving again! I cannot wait for this course. Great work, Team Polish!

January 18, 2015

Thank you! We're doing our best.

January 18, 2015

Bardzo czekam na ten kurs. Dziękuję bardzo!

January 18, 2015

Gosh, how I am waiting for this course

January 20, 2015

Agreed.. considering how many languages I have a basic grasp of, it irks me a little bit that I can't study the only language that I actually come in contact with day to day. Apparently 1 out of every 100 people in the UK speaks Polish!

January 18, 2015

And that is exactly why I am learning Turkish. I'm moving to Germany and I know there is a great amount of Turks in Germany.

January 20, 2015

And you will be able to use Duolingo to study Turkish soon! Mit Duo kannst du es schaffen! :D

January 23, 2015

Do you already speak German?

January 20, 2015

nope, I am learning it too. I'm at a much higher level in German than Turkish though.

January 20, 2015

Wow, nice pic!

I didn't realise the language of the Aztecs was still going strong....

January 19, 2015

I can't wait for Esperanto and Russian! I hope it's not too long now...

January 18, 2015

Greaaaaaaat! I'm looking forward so much for the Hungarian course! Can't wait! Good job.

January 18, 2015

I can't wait for the Esperanto and the Ukrainian course ! I am so glad it is making good progress :D !

January 18, 2015

Yay! Russian's moving again!

January 18, 2015

We're always moving. :) The question is at what pace we are moving. :D

January 18, 2015

Yes it is. And the answer is slowly but surely.

January 18, 2015

We're moving as fast as we can with the man/woman power we have available. :) Nevertheless, the Russian course is coming(please don't ask when)! ;)

January 18, 2015

I wish my Russian wasn't so totally rusty. I have been learning German via Russian and it's kind of fun, but man, I've forgotten so much.

January 20, 2015

That is called being over ambitious :)

I had thought that I will be able to manage with just an hour's delay in posting this week's update after coming back from the ski trip that I had organized for our group. Based on my calculation I had given you the ETA of 5:00 pm UTC.

Unfortunately, it is going to take longer, but please be rest assured that I will complete the update before the end of my day (PST).

I would like to end this comment with a great news! Our English for Hindi course has just graduated out of beta! Thanks to my wonderful teammates and also to the entire team Duo for their incredible support. More later!

January 26, 2015

Wow, January 2015 seems to be the month Duolingo decided to give the boot to those phase 2 courses. :)

So many courses graduated this month, and several are competing for a reverse tree in the incubator. Considering that duolingo doesn't allocate too many courses in Phase 1, this is going to be interesting.

January 26, 2015

Very glad to see courses moving that haven't had much progress in months :) Exciting times!

January 18, 2015

I can't wait for Esperanto! Well, really, I can't wait for all of them, but Esperanto is the one I'm looking forward to the most. :D

Congrats to all the teams on their progress!

January 18, 2015

Thanks for all the continuous updates you've provided! You've taken all these reports to another level!

January 20, 2015

A few lingots to welcome you back to the fold :)

January 20, 2015

Glad to see Polish start moving again. Really looking forward to that course.

January 18, 2015
<h1>GO ROMANIAN!!!!!!!!</h1>

I'm so excited about this process and I hope it continues steadily, instead of getting stuck again! Yay!!!!

January 19, 2015

I doubt it'll ever get stuck again. I am completely with you. I really want to reach fluency in Romanian (being optimistic). Maybe it'll be a little bit easier than German because I speak Portuguese.

January 20, 2015

Yup, I can see that it's getting off the ground, especially with the new contributors (!!!).

January 20, 2015

English for Thai has also moved by 2%! Usually they advance only by few decimals per week.

January 18, 2015

Hungarian and Polish!! So excited for both!

January 19, 2015

Me too!

January 23, 2015

Ukrainian does it again! I am so happy! Finally get my family language on Duo! Been learning for almost a year, and Duo is what I need to move to the next step!

January 19, 2015

I know vietnamese just entered the beta phase but i just can't wait for it! I know... I need to be patient, though on the other hand... GIMME GIMME GIMME!

January 19, 2015

Thanks for the update.

January 18, 2015

I alwalys comment on your posts because in my opinion they are the best ones. Thank you again!

January 19, 2015

Go Esperanto!! Now only if they add Norwegian...

January 20, 2015

I should think Swedish and/or Norwegian would give you a leg up in the meantime?

January 23, 2015

I can't see Hindi for English - I hope it is planned, as it's the main non-English language I come into contact with day to day. I especially hope that romanisation can be used to separate learning the script from learning the language; it is much easier to learn a script when you already understand what it says, and learning both at once slows both processes down.

January 20, 2015

Thanks, Jiten.

January 19, 2015

Congratulations to Irish for coming out of beta earlier than Dutch! :D But Dutch still beat Irish in actually going into Beta, so I guess it doesn't really matter. :D Hooray for both teams in finally graduating from Beta!
