I though æble was an -et word? Is that only relevant when it's just "the apple"?

And with "an apple"

It is not relevant when talking about more then one apple

Æble = apple

Et æble = an apple

Æblet = the apple

Æbler = apples

Æblerne = the apples

I was certain that adding en to the end counted as "the". So i typed hesten and it corrected to en hest. Please help me understand...

This sentence is asking for "a horse," though.
