Is the verb andare never used in constructions about the near future?

For example, why not "Va chiedere dell'acqua" instead of using the actual future tense? I know "to go" + infinitive is a common construction in English and French, but is that not the case with Italian?

It's not the same. Andare can be used as an auxiliary, but differently. Le foglie vanno cadendo, the leaves are falling. Or for the passive, Potrebbe andare perso, it could get lost.
