vocabulary decay rate broken?

Is it only me who has this problem? That is, there is a small amount (I'd guess about 20, mostly from very early lessons) of words that decay very fast about 24h, no matter how many times I have gotten them right?

Conversely there is a large amount of words that never decay, or at least not in six weeks. I'd say these are words that I might have gotten right the first time, which does not mean I know them perfectly (I might be able to translate them from french to english but not the other way around)

So it seems that a word that one misses a few times initially remains "weak" even though I have since learned them. That is, 20 rights do not make up for five initial wrongs...

This is very frustrating, because it makes it difficult to practice all those words I have learned but tend to forget, since when I chose "lesson practice" or "pratice weakest words" I get the samel sentences again and again, with a repeat rate of about two days. Only if I do insane amounts (100+ points in a day) of this practice other sentences appear... And then the next day it is back to same old sentences again.

So now I am excluding this words manually, but that is not a good solution either, for I will need to practice them, say in two months time or so.

So, is this something that only happening to me (because of some bug or something) or is it like this for everyone?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention; we're working to figure out what's going on.

OK, we made some tweaks to the word strength system that should fix this. If I'm right about what was happening, it only affected people for whom most of their vocab is full-strength (like you), and it should be much better now.

Oohhhh Awesome. That has definitely done some damage to my golden skill tree which hopefully means it's more accurate as a reflection (I'm seeing more likely things decay). Thanks for that :)!

As a CS major, just curious, what sort of "tweaks" have you actually made to the system? Only if you're allowed/willing to share, of course.

Thanks, now it looks like it reflects the truth much much better. Thanks for the swift response, you're doing an amazing job!

Although, I don't think the reason this happened to me was that most of my vocab was full strength, rather most of my vocab was full strength because it did not decay, and the rest I strengthened by practising a lot after starting this thread.

I think this is slightly different, but still words popup up as learned just seconds ago in the vocabulary tree, while these words never appeared in previous practices on totally different skills, although I know some words interchange between skills. The words I talk about are: sentir, gusto, noche and día.

Wonderful! In order to figure out what's going on I have spent the last three days doing loads of "practice weakest words", several hundred points worth. So now my list looks truly absurd. If I list from weakest, the several hundred first words were practiced "yesterday" or later. If I list from strongest the a large chunk of the first words were practiced a month ago. All my weakest words were practice (and correctly answered within less than twelve hours.

Now I'm pretty sure this skill is broken for me:

After I have done "Practice weakest words" from the skill "Common Phrases", the following results are visible:

gracias - 10 seconds ago, adiós - 10 seconds ago, inglés - 10 seconds ago, español - 10 seconds ago, no - 10 seconds ago, disculparse - 10 seconds ago, sí - 10 seconds ago,

sentir - 3 minutes ago, gusto - 3 minutes ago, noche - 3 minutes ago, día - 3 minutes ago

And I'm 100% sure that the last four words didn't pop up in the practice. Even more, I haven't seen these words for ages, everytime I'm doing this skills, whether it is from the practice weakest word button or the practice skills option, I just always get the first seven words and maybe "Hola" in some kind of form.

EDIT:

I've done two times "Practice skill". And got the following words: First time: De nada, por favor, perdón, hola, inglés Second time: adíos, disculpe, español, gracias, inglés

It seems some of the more common phrases just never pops up, is it possible to repair this inconsistency?

Another way to say this is that when I check my vocabulary list the words least recently practised (1 month) are all at full strength, whereas if I least them according weakness, all the weakest words have been practised the last three or four days, a huge part of them yesterday.

I don't particularly experience your problem, but what I discovered is that some words just never appear in earlier practices, like "lo siento" in Spanish lessons. If I look at the date, it states that I have just seen it some minutes ago, while before practicing the skill, it was 3 days ago. Very strange. So maybe have a look at the dates. It's quite possible that the system just thinks that it uses the words while it did not.

I came to discussion just to post this. As an example for any of the admins, in my account I review the section on Clitic Pronouns in Italian almost every day. Within about 24-48 hours, a number of words in that section have decayed down to 1 bar.

This is concerning because (for those who don't know), clitic pronouns are generally pronouns such as "lo" and "gli" used for direct and indirect objects. They are words that I would use very often when practising other areas of the language. Yet for some reason in the space of mere days, they're decaying to nothing as if I haven't seen them in months :/

Now that you mention it, bere, essere, and leggere all appear at the top of my list of weakened words, despite the fact that they all have four bars. And yet, when I click on one, the following page has it listed as one bar, despite the fact that they are three of the first verbs I learned and I've seen each one over a hundred times. It's very confusing.

thats a separate thing, known bug, and they are working on it. It does not affect anything according to the developer, it is just displayed wrong.
