Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

it took me a year to get up to the 25th level in spanish

of course, I am probably a year away from finishing the course. Have I run out of achievement levels? Have you eliminated yet another avenue to satisfy my rapacity for lingots? Your team selfishly eliminated bonus lingots for excercises performed without error

Felicidades! That is quite an achievement. Especially since it appears that you have done it without any Immersion. It took me 130 days to go from Level 1 to Level 25, but in the latter part of that time period, I was doing a lot of translating.

As far as the removal of the heart system goes, remember that this only applies to the site itself. There are many ways to get the app version of Duolingo, which continues to support the exercises in which you obtain a lingot for a perfect score.

¡Buena suerte, amigo!

Dang, EnigmaticTiger, I didn't know that about the apps still giving lingots for a perfect score. That variant of the site was much better than the current one. Maybe I'll have to procure some such device.

And CONGRATULATIONS, kinnard! As you can see, I'm far from level 25 anywhere, and my only Golden Owl earned was in French, at about level 14 or 15. Then I decided that was too quick and advance now only with perfect scores, which seems to be what you do too. But I got the name "slogger," first.

We're kind of like opposites. I've been on Duolingo for a year. I finished the tree, but I'm only on level 17. Happy learning!

I'm almost completed with my french tree and I'm only at level 15! I've been at it for maybe 8-10 months. I'm not sure if I'm being cheated or not, because I tested out of some skills, but most of them I did normally. Maybe streak has something to do with it (I rarely get passed a few days). Beside my possible realization of being cheated out of levels, congratulations on your achievement and keep up the good work.

Language learning doesn't have anything to do with the intelligence... I know very smart and very not-that-smart people, and many of them could learn languages!

But you have to know that you are not an idiot. To keep trying and trying makes you smart

See, you know that piece of French ("au contraire"; "huhg, huhg, huhg; yew arhge noot sew dewrm eeen ZUH F(HGH)rènsh(!) aftahrhg aul"), but I wouldn't know that in Spanish (I'm only at level four). P.S. All that weird spelling is my attempt to write down a Monty Python-style French accent.
