Any way to keep kids from opting out of speaking?

It didn't take long for my students to figure out that you can opt out of all of the speaking exercises by clicking "I can't use a microphone right now" (or something along those lines) on those activities. I would really appreciate if there was either a way to see when students do this or a way to disable this option. Maybe there is, and I am missing it?

Yeah, as noted above, not possible to prevent this.

To ensure students are practicing speaking I do the following: When students are doing lessons, I'd suggest going around and doing pronunciation practice with individuals or small groups. You can take sentences directly from the lessons and work on those, with repeat after me, read aloud, dictations, etc.

Also possible is weekly recordings to see if they are in fact practicing.

another thing they may or may not be taking advantage of is the fact that you can get things counted as correct on DL without adding the accents.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to do that right now. Others have suggested this though, so perhaps it will be possible in the future.
