things on the screen

Loving this course! But cannot understand things that appear on the screen. A bar with 5 at one end and 6 at the other, and above it 50/150 XP. What does it mean? I'm only on level 2 basics!

It means that you're level 5 in Swedish based on the experience points (XP) that you've earned thus far, and that you have accumulated 50 of the 150 experience points needed to advance to level 6. The bar is just a visual representation of that progress. I'm glad you're enjoying the course! :)

So although I am only working on level 2, and haven't looked at levels 3 and 4, I am actually on level 5? Does that mean I'm working too hard?

You can think of Basics 2 as a skill; a collection of lessons on one subject, rather than a level. The levels from 1 - 25 don't relate directly to skills, but every time you work on a skill, by doing one of the lessons within it, you earn experience points that add up towards your next level. The levels are there for added motivation, or as a measure of the combined effort you've put into learning the language.

We're all different, so only you can tell if you're working too hard. For me it's when I'm so tired that I start making silly little mistakes and typos, and take forever to complete a lesson.

Thanks for that! I understand about motivation. This is the first time I have found a language-teaching tool that motivates me, and I'm enjoying it hugely.
