CALLING ALL IGBO SPEAKERS!
I want to learn more Igbo, and I want others to know more Igbo. Anyone who is a fluent Igbo speaker-please help or start a course for English people who want to speak Igbo! Please!
I'd be excited to learn Igbo, too. I'm considering it for my 2017 language. I already plan to spend a year each on Spanish, Russian, and Arabic. So I'm trying to decide whether to go for Hindi next, or Mandarin, or else an African language like Igbo, Yoruba, or Swahili.
All of those languages can be good to learn. I suggest getting the feel of each language and then deciding which one you like best. Although, I agree with languageObsessed's recommendation-Igbo!
Okay everybody, Duolingo is now doing polls to that bring out new languages! The sooner this post gets more and more likes, the faster the course will come out! So please send the link of this post to others so that they can vote it up =)

what is the progress of an Igbo course on Duolingo? It looks like the last comment was from one year ago.
Create a course in Igbo. I am a native speaker and I can join in building it. Lots of people will indeed be interested. I started creating one on Memrise a few years ago but I lost interest as I was the only one.
Unfortunately, I don't think there's much progress at all so far. I just don't think it's been submitted yet. :(
I would love to have an Igbo course! I'm trying to learn from my mom (she's a native speaker), but it's difficult to remain motivated and I won't be able to write in it because she doesn't know how.
same! a duolingo course would most definitely motivate me to begin studying Igbo diligently.
If your mom joins DL, help her begin to create the course and then invite me to join or better, try starting with what you already know and then tap her knowledge and with me, a native speaker you can be part of creating the course for thousands like you who want to learn too.
i've always wanted to speak igbo although i am. But i am born in america my parents just don't really find it reasonable to learn the language.
Same; I'm a Nigerian-American and both of my parents know Igbo, but they don't seem to be devoted to teaching it to me.
Ndewo (Greetings) everyone, Let's take Igbo seriously and open up the language millions of new learners (young and old) to enjoy our cultural heritage.
Here's a brief video by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on the joys of learning Igbo https://web.facebook.com/chimamandaadichie/videos/10156146264140944/

What other ideas do you have?
Igbo would be really interesting.
There's a project to revive and modernize the nsibidi system for Igbo, although it hasn't been widely adopted yet: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5f1an210zc1oznt/63616534-Ikpo-Nsibidi-Igbo.pdf?dl=0
AS a Nigerian-American whose parents didn't pass the language down I would LOVE to learn Igbo. Please make this happen!!! So many Igbo youth can barely understand the language. This will help keep the culture strong in the diaspora.
I agree, I am also an Nigerian-American who is looking to be fluent in the Igbo language. I think it is beneficial and important for the youths to keep a strong tie-in with his or her homeland
@duolingopeep7, thanks for your interest in Igbo. I believe the time is ripe for us to to start an Igbo course for English people here on Duolingo. Igbo is my mother-tongue and as an influencer online, I am ready to team up with other contributors on this platform to start the Igbo course. Kindly do all within your power to fast-track the process. Thank you very much.
This would be amazing! I recently got married to a woman who's family speaks Igbo and I would love to be able to converse at least a bit with them, especially if we go visit her family's home.
This is a great Idea! I being a young Igbo teen, have always wanted to learn Igbo since I moved to America at a very young age. My parents being fluent speakers want me to learn, but they simply dont have the time. This would be a great help!
This is an excuse. If they wanted you to learn they simply should have spoken Igbo to you. They didn't "make time" to speak to you in English, they just did. It is truly that easy. That is how language works.
My same situation! I've looked towards BBC Igbo, the FSI Igbo Course, Mango Languages, and traditional Igbo music as of recent. GOD bless you in your journey!
Although I can speak Igbo fluently, I'd love to learn more words and the punctuations
This would be so amazing if it comes to Fruition. Where are all my millenial Igbos who don't know the language? There should be hundreds of likes by now lol
Please bring out an Igbo course for English speakers. Igbo is a largely spoken language in Nigeria next to Yoruba and I would like to learn it as soon as possible. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!! DUOLINGO ALL THE WAY!!!
Yes, I am also interested in learning Igbo! I'm Nigerian-American and I understand a little bit of Igbo, but I can't speak it. I would love to broaden my vocabulary, build my listening skills, and speak confidently. Learning my my language is important to me. I hope Duolingo will add Igbo very soon.
