Problem with possesives

I've been gone for while and wanted to get back into the habit of practicing my Italian, so I was doing lessons on the Android app on my Galaxy S II, but whenever I get a sentence where I need to write "Il suo" or "La sua" I keep being told I'm wrong and put in the the words for the wrong gender. It's happened twice now, with both genders.

"Il suo" means "his" right? The app told me I should have written "La sua" for "his". And vice versa for the feminine gender. That's wrong, right?

Is anyone else having this problem, or is it just me?

Your problem is that "il suo" can mean either "his" or "her". The same for "la sua". The choice depends on the gender of the following word, not the gender of the one who possesses that thing, as you are assuming.
