About immersion

How can I unsubscribe from an article? and by doing that do I lose the downvotes I received?....I have translated a little bit from this article https://www.duolingo.com/translation/cf2e90fc6ef4f23af672a485dd6092ab only to get downvotes out of nowhere, with no other translations provided or to correct me.

P.S. If I get more than 10 downvotes, what do I have to do at that point. Thanks

I agree with Abendbrot, I don't know if the English became scrambled during uploading becuse the gaps and punctuation between the words is missing. Either way, this text is not a good one for you to practice on, there are lots of good, interesting texts out there, so find yourself another one and start again.

By the way, sometimes people downvote in immersion without realising that that is what they are doing; because the "downvote" button is actually labelled "looks wrong", many people who are new to the site think that they are merely saying that they don't think the translation looks to be correct. They do not realise that they are actually downvoting the translator.

If you get more than 10 downvotes you don't actually need to do anything, the system means that the final translation used will be the one with the most upvotes (theoretically, the most accurate version) the others will just not be used.

If you keep getting downvotes, look critically at your translations, compare them to the ones being upvoted and see whether or not you are making the same mistakes. If you are lucky, you will get explanations for any changes but sometimes people don't explain their reasons (not good practice unless it's something obvious) If the changes are justified, think of it as a learning tool.

If the changes are not justified, ignore them and move on. I know from experience that trying to combat Trolls if you are unlucky enough to come across them is pointless, they haven't got the brains to respond to rational arguments, so like all bullies are best ignored.

make a course surround labels with an '-ing'-word. like "A text for learning German." , your translation was not good.

I am still learning to make proper german sentences, I have already reached tier 4 in german to english, but the reverse tree is harder for me. It would be lovely if you can proof read my sentences if you got time.

I think the most important fact is, if one gets many downvoted translations, he/she fullfill the 10% rule. If so, it is not possible to rise forwards in levels.

I didn't realise that you would be held back if you got more than 10% downvotes but I suppose it makes sense, that if enough people ,genuinely, think your translations are poor then you shouldn't progress to a position where you can downvote better translations.

so you get stuck for good?

Nein, nicht für immer. Wenn du 100 Übersetzungen brauchst und von deinen 100 11 falsch sind, wirst du einfach 110 Übersetzungen brauchen.

No, not for ever. If (it is only an example) you need 100 translations to reach a higher tier and 11 translations was wrong, you will need total 110 translations to reach the higher tier. (In the next tier one will have zero good and zero false translations.)

I went to this article you mentioned. I saw 3 translations. The first one got 1 vote, the next one 0 votes, and the last one 2 votes. -There are no downvotes.

By the way, that English text in immersion is rubbish.

Please look for another (better) one.

I don't know, how to remove translations. It would be interessting if it is possible.

The uploader can remove the article under "Legend" (within the document). There is a "Remove article" option.

Yes, the downloader. But the translater? Can the translater remove one single translation of a sentence, after one corrected him/her?

I got the downvotes alright, I don't know why you can't see them. Do you by any chance any starter texts I can translate since the amount of texts in the english-german immersion is really low. Thanks

The most are translated already. But if you have no problem with, I can give you some links. (I just read a bit before, 30 minutes.)

These are the easiest I have found and uploaded in the past:

This one has another part before, maybe you find it in immersion, if you don't want to search, you should look in the discussion of this text, there is the source-adress, which leads you to the whole story. https://www.duolingo.com/translation/f5919347c92ec08b49d9778a1bc5831d

This one is very short, but not such easy: https://www.duolingo.com/translation/afd2ec4281f4b293b49f4739710b3f44

started translating that same article and stopped after 4 "sentences" and got 4 downvotes. Today they are just gone, still these 4 sentences of the article are listed in my upvote/downvote list, but luckily now without any downvote, maybe the same happened to you (I guess the person reset the votes)

But I got 25 downvotes now for another article on which you worked on as well https://www.duolingo.com/translation/a3043986ea1ef6b5a49063506c00b832 3 people working on the article did get downvotes for correct translations without any correction, as far as i can see you did not (just upvoted some of your translations and there was no downvote yet), or did you?

No I didn't get any downvotes yet, I guess it is some high tier guy trolling? It is really irritating.

Also the downvotes from the previous article weren't reset, Thanks for the upvotes though :)

Sad to hear. I also seem to stick with the 29 downvotes for the article I linked. You're welcome. Gl and hf:)

Sorry to hear that, If there is any way I can help you just let me know :)

All i found under discussion was "contact support - it will take a while". So I'd appreciate you looking over the new downvotes and upvote/correct the sentences. I got downvotes for another article I helped on https://www.duolingo.com/translation/88afa6e1ce9bcdc5d9b39c81dbe214f3$index=79

And contact support for the unjustified downvotes you got, it might accelerate the process, and thanks for the lingots, I still have to unlock a lot in the shop^^
