French songs anyone?

Hello everyone. After purchasing a computer off of kijiji i found duolingo still on the apps board for chrome and decided to check it out. two weeks into it and iv found its a wonderful place to actually learn something rather than bore myself like in school.

Im wondering if anyone has any french songs they could request, i noticed someone else post the question but it seems all the answers are garbage rap songs. Iv been looking but was just wondering if anyone knew any classic, good or cultured music, none of that rap garbage.

EDIT: Jan.31.2015: Thank you so much everyone for your suggestions i very much appreciate all the input and positive attitude!

I always liked Mireille Mathieu's music. My mother bought me a cassette tape of her songs way back in the 70's when I first started taking French in school and I just about wore it out. I also enjoy Robert Clary's old recordings. I'm WAY too old for rap. :-)

I'm not taking French but I loved La Vie en Rose (movie) and Jacques Brel on You Tube. You probably already know these but just thought I'd put them out there in case you hadn't. And the sweet children's song, A la Claire Fontaine.

Stromae is one of my favorite French artists. He is a rapper but also adds Latin, Pop, and electronic influences on his music. His songs are very meaningful. Also, they have nice beats and they are easily danceable. Note: he sings in informal French. It sounds somewhat odd.

Personally my favorite artist is Indochine (rock/alternative) with songs like: -Le Lac -Little Dolls -Un Singe en Hiver

But if you're looking something older then try Francoise Hardy (Pop/50's/60's music): -Le Temps de l'amour -Tous les Garcons et les Filles -Voila

And as other people have said, Coeur de Pirate is a good one too. But she speaks a little fast.

If you enjoy Disney movies they're always a good option because you can usually find songs from them you already like with pretty good English translations.

I personally love Lisa Angell's "N'oubliez pas", unfortunately, many people think it's boring ...

This video has lyrics to the song as well as the English translation:

Look for Zaz, Je veux is her first song that came out, but the new album is classic French songs, made more up beat.

If you look up nrj.fr you'll get a french internet radio. A lot of the songs are in English, but there's a radio station for songs from french producers on there (though even then some of them are still in English or African languages)

Something else you might enjoy: the video of the stage production "Notre Dame de Paris", starring Garou and Bruno Pelletier. I found it originally on Netflix and ended up tracking down and purchasing a copy of my own because I loved it so much. (I have an all-region DVD player... a great investment, by the way!)
