In reality, "responsibility" is synonymous with "duty" in this particular context.

"Obligation" is the same as "duty." However, it is not quite the same as "responsibility."

"Responsibility" = "responsabilidad" I find it generally best to translate using the cognate. Thus, "obligación" = "obligation".

Hint: in most of these "vocabulary" units, DL is giving us mostly cognates of the English. Thus, the translations are easy. Why make it harder?

P.S., SpanishDict.com does give one translation of "obligación" as "responsibility." http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/obligacion But for most of the examples it gives, "obligation" seems to be a better translation.

Still not accepted as of June 2018. If there's some good reason why it should not be accepted, then a moderator or course creator should explain why not.

I think in this context "duty" would be more idiomatic.

why not"huge"?!!!

It's a mistake. I wrote huge too. The Spanish placement test is really inaccurate; I've been quitting and restarting for the past few hours.

Why was I flagged for "The soldiers have a great obligation"? I get that gran is more literally "big" but Duo's correction was "The soldiers have a great responsibility", so apparently it didn't mind that. Wouldn't obligation be a better translation than responsibility?
