I am struggling to remember the Pretirite forms of many of the Spanish irregular verbs. Please tell me that I will eventually get them right!

Have you thought about making flash cards? Write Hago on one side and Hice on the other. Make about twenty cards, too many will be overwhelming. Start by reading all the Present sides first, then all the Preterite. Next read every card Present to Preterite, then Preterite to Present. Finally see if you can remember them.

Yes, thank you. I have thought of doing something along these lines. I think I need to see the "table" of conjugations as a whole rather than trying to remember individual portions.

Just keep repeating those lessons. Eventually it will stick.

You could look up in a table all forms of one verb. This helped me a lot.

Do you keep a notebook? I have a terrible memory, but if I write things down, I do eventually remember them. You will get it. Be patient with yourself. Like Abendbrot writes, find a table. I say write with pen or pencil a copy for yourself. It helps it to stick in your brain. Also, read it out loud. The physical act of saying it and hearing it and reading it will help it stick, too. Best of luck.

I have a whole folder of notes, but think I need to spend some time organizing them better and actually studying them instead of just filing them!

These are some of the more difficult aspects of Spanish or any language to learn. Keep at it with plenty of repetition and they will eventually stick and make sense. A way I find encouragement is to look at what I take for granted now as simplistic common knowledge, and back to a time when I really thought the same things would always remain a struggle to learn. 'Time' I found is quite often the key in learning certain things.

As you speak English, keep in mind that you have already effortlessly learned all the preterit forms for the great majority of English words. You didn't get them overnight, but you got them. This will be the same for you. As I was struggling through a university years ago, I remember wondering how many thousands before me conquered what I was going through. And it passed. This will too. Just keep chipping away at it! Good luck!

True! I am now concentrating on trying to learn just a couple of the irregulars every day and doing them really well, instead of trying to cram dozens of them into my brain at one time. This seems to be working better.
