Creating a Duolingo store

Has Duolingo thought of creating a store? Because it seriously should.

The thought occurred to me today when I saw this meme earlier today about a jacket being sold that says: "I will not be forced to learn a foreign language to accommodate illegals in my country" and the meme says "Do you have this in Lakota?" which I thought was a great response.

It made me really want to wear pro-learning a second language clothing. I have told a great number of people in my daily life about Duolingo. That is how much I support it and love it. But I would love nothing more than to wear a Duolingo jacket so people will ask me about the site and I can tell them about its benefits.

I'm thinking pro-language learning T-shirts, jackets, coffee mugs. Proceeds would go towards site maintenance.

What would you like to see?

I guess this is want you're looking for! They don't have much, but it is there! :)

What? Why have I never seen this before? Why is it not linked on the main page??

It's a good start. I can't wait until they expand their clothing line a little but I'm definitely looking forward to wearing some of these!

You'll find a link at the bottom of every page, it's called Gear. :)

I see it now. I can't believe I haven't noticed it before.

Are there any plans to expand the T-shirt line beyond Spanish phrases?

A year ago, this discussion was posted. kristinemc said:

We're making shirts with some of the funny phrases on Duolingo, including one from every language we offer!

They started with Spanish, and I suppose they never made enough money off of them to make any more.

@Hohenems Wow, never knew that! Then who knows...

They don't make money off the products. They sell them at cost.

Does anyone else think they would sell more items if "store" were placed prominently under the main choices on the top of the page?

My buddies sent Duo a wooden Iphone case (may have been another phone...they do several) with the Duo logo carved into it in hopes of working out a deal.
It was a no go. Duo didn't want to pay what they were asking.

Considering how many of Duo's users are app users, I figured it would have been a done deal.
