Congratulations Kimcn9!. I finished the tree at 14. Yet everyday I continue to do review. Choose the 'blue button' to do review each day. DL will automatically choose to give you what you need based on strength. And this will be random. So you will get lessons out of order. This is great. Tonight , I tried something very different. I did review while listening to music. So I had to hear the 'voces' among the music and singing. That was a very 'true to life' experience we cannot replicate unless immersed in the culture. Fortunately I live in Belize. So my practice along with music and DL , and speaking with 'los locales' during the day with various background noises just amplifies my 'hearing the voice' better. I read, write and speak well. My weakness is the listening. Hence I have found another way to challenge myself. I hope you continue to level 25!

Thanks for the advice! I´m living in Spain right now, but still don´t talk all that much as the office I´m in has English speakers. I need to open my mouth more! And yes, I plan to keep working on it :)

What I meant was I finished the tree at Level 14. A small misunderstanding there. No prob.

Keep at it. Even though I finished the tree, I continue to get new sentences during review. And little by little, concepts that were difficult are coming into understanding. It takes a lifetime to learn a language. Even your native language evolves as you grow older.

Cool! I finished my German one a few days before my birthday. Birthdays must be good luck to duolingo users. :)

how long did it take you to finish your tree? also what was your Spanish language capability when you started?

https://www.duolingo.com/Kimcn9

It took me a little over a year, and when I started I had tried other programs but I was still maybe an intermediate beginner? Didn´t know a whole lot. Duo isn´t the only thing I use though - I try to do a wide variety of stuff.

now that you have finished your tree how would you describe you Spanish fluency? Do you practice the skills i.e. the ability to recall all the words previously learned? or have you just progressed through the levels without looking back?

https://www.duolingo.com/Kimcn9

I've actually pretty much kept up with the tree (keeping it completely yellow most of the time), although I got behind a couple times. I've also gone back a couple times when I got stuck and just gone through strengthening all the lower levels again to get a running start at the hard place :). My memory isn't the best so it takes a lot of repetition! And I'm trying to learn Spanish, not "finish a tree" , so I'm still working on it! As far as fluency, I've got a long way to go, but I can usually make myself understood :)

Haha, I've got close to 1,300 lingots. :P I wish DuoLingo had more options to spend them on.

Congrats, Any tips on staying motivated or other tricks you discovered while finishing the tree?

https://www.duolingo.com/Kimcn9

Hum. I am pretty stubborn, which helps! Roll with the punches- don´t let it get you down when it´s not going well. Keep workiing on it even if you have to take a bit of a break! But be consistent in doing at least a bit almost every day. I also do a lot of other stuff besides duo like Spanish Dic, 1,2,3,teach me, other programs, flash card program, and just trying to open my mouth! I´m in Spain on a mission for my church, which helps give motivation, but most of the people I associate with speak English. That makes it a bit more difficult. But I go to the Spanish church meetings, and it has helped with understanding - although when those with a heavy castillian accent speak fast it is pretty hopeless! Other things... I try not to get too hung up on the rules, but instead try to get a feel for what would be the right answer and it´s worked - esp. on the multiple choice I can pretty much tell even when I do not know for sure. Also, I´ll repeat the right answers several times out loud, and for the listening ones, try to write it out first with the fast one, but always check with the slow. And for the translating, try to write it out yourself first, but then check it by hovering if you can. But if you think yours is right, stick with it! And keep repeating those correct answers until things just start feeling right for you!

I know what you mean about everyone speaking english. I was visiting Germany 10 years ago after 2 years of classes and everyone spoke english. It very much killed my desire to continue learning the language.

Happy birthday!! I'm so glad you're finished with your tree! I started learning Spanish in school from a young age, but this year my teachers were simply not effective enough, which was why I started Duolingo again. I can't wait to finish my tree! Happy belated birthday again!

¡Felicidades! and ¡Feliz cumpleaños! How do you feel woth your spanish now?

https://www.duolingo.com/Kimcn9

I can read pretty well, and understand decently paced (not too fast), clear Spanish, but I can't understand everything, and while I can usually get my point across, my speaking isn't very good. I'm still working on it though! And thanks!

I have started my tree when I was 11, and I'm turning 13, so, I might finish around mid- February! :)

Does this just mean you finish all of the lessons duolingo has?

https://www.duolingo.com/Kimcn9

All the lessons for English to Spanish. I could still do Spanish to English and the other languages, and I plan to keep all my lessons up to date and "yellow" for practice and to keep getting better.
