Question about nino/hombre

I wanted to know if nino /hombre and nina/mujer are interchangeable like boy/man and girl/woman are in english or if the are literal nino= male child & mujer=Adult woman ect. (ps sorry for no accented letters i don't have a key pad on my laptop to do alt codes with)

This is a good question. If they are interchangable I would guess they would use chico/hombre and chica/mujer instead of niño and niña. I know chica is many times used to refer to an adult woman.

I don't think they are interchangeable in Spanish or in English.

I would never point to a man in a white lab coat in a hospital and ask "What does that boy do?"
I would never ask a woman on a bench at a playground "Is that man with you?"

They are not interchangeable at all. Niño / niña refers to a small boy /girl (a kid). Hombre / mujer referst to an adult. Chico / chica refers more to a young adult or a teenager.

I hope this explanation helps you.
