Nach, Ní, Níl

[deactivated user]

    I'm having a hard time remembering which form to use in a sentence.

    Does anyone have any helpful hints they've memorized to help them remember the difference?

    Is maith liom e - I like it.... ----- ni maith liom e - i don't like it

    Ta a fhios agam - I know....------ nil a fhios agam - I do not know

    Is iontach e! - It is wonderful! ----- nach iontach e?! - isn't it wonderful?!

      Excellent; these clear it up for me. Go raibh maith agaoibh!

      Ní= negative form of Is

      Níl= negatiive form of Tá (Níl= Ní Fhuil)

      And nach? I don't think I've seen it yet in the course.

      Nach creates a negative question.

      An bhfuil tú go maith? are you well?

      Nach bhfuil tú go maith? aren't you well?

      An féidir leat? can you?

      Nach féidir leat? can't you?

      An raibh an capall ann? was the horse there?

      Nach raibh an capall ann? wasn't the horse there?

      Thanks. Go raibh maith agaoibh
