Spanish for English tree not very tolerant of typos

I recently completed my French tree and, having moved on to Spanish, I've been getting a lot more answers marked wrong because of typos than I was getting before. I understand that the team can only include so many possible answers for a question (and I greatly appreciate their efforts), but I just wanted to bring this up for consideration.

I find that typos which create a real, but incorrect, word, are marked wrong while typos that make a nonsense word are usually accepted. After all, Duo cannot tell if we KNOW that the shirt is on the table or if we really think the shirt is in the table. But if you type the shirt is om the table, that's probably just a typo.

There may be exceptions to this, but that's how it seems to work. Duo is pretty smart.
