French Tongue Twisters!

"Je ne fais rien, mais je le fais bien." - I came across this today and well, it's such a tongue twister! (& it rhymes).

Does anyone know any other French tongue twisters? This could be a really fun way to practice speaking French :P

Si ton tonton tond ton tonton, ton tonton sera tondu. is my favourite! :)

And for if you would like to practise some... :)

I like that one - although I've seen it ending ''tondu sera'' which I think is a little harder to say!

Notes: Tonton = uncle, tondre = to crop/shear

That's too many "ton"s. It'll be difficult just to remember how many "ton"s that makes.....Eleven it is.

Haha, Google Translate thinks it's "If your uncle mows your uncle, your uncle will be cropped".

Well it's not far wrong for once! Tondre = to mow/crop/shear/clip, even to 'fleece' someone (ie take all their money).

Context is everything. :-)

Probably the most obvious and famous:

"Les chaussettes de l'archiduchesse sont-elles sèches ou archi-sèches ?"

"Are the socks of the archduchess dry or extremely dry?"

And here's a cute video to go with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHm6M_TOP_U

I went to New Caledonia last year and bought some newspapers to practice on. While not really a tongue-twister I had an interesting listening exercise. " Six cent cinquante cinq franc." New Caledonia uses the Pacific franc and the above was the cost of the newspapers.(655 franc).

Actually, babble.com has a whole course (9 small lessons) on french tongue twisters! I think the first month is free, if you don't want to pay for using the site. Some of them are just great, like this one: "Paul se pèle au pôle dans sa pile de pulls et de polos pâles"
