"basics 1"

I'm a bit confused. Shouldn't it be "Io sono una donna" to say "i am a woman" instead of "Sono una donna"?

"Io sono una donna" and "sono una donna" are both correct, but the first is a bit redundant. The verb "sono" is conjugated in the first person and means "I am". Therefore the "io" is implied already. You would only really implicitly say the "io" if you want to emphasize it. "TU non sei una donna. IO sono una donna." (/You're/ not a woman. /I'm/ a woman)

Oh ok, that makes much more sense. Thanks!
