Duolingo is Amazing

For someone who has no memorable prior experience in acquiring new language such as French, Duolingo is so easy to use and the results are so fast and amazing. :D

It is pretty amazing, isn't it? I have just one bit of advice for you, though. Duolingo is terrific for learning vocabulary, but it provides next to no help for grammar. When you reach your first section with a strange sounding title, like clitic pronouns or present perfect verbs, find an outside source for assistance. Otherwise, it can be a nightmare.

If you study other languages that Duolingo has had some time to develop more completely like Spanish, French, and German, then the lessons really do offer more explicit grammar teaching support. I think Italian and Portuguese are just not quite caught up yet.

Thanks, that's good to know. I figure Italian will be my trial by fire, and then from there I should have an easier time with the others, at least the latin languages.

Thanks, i'll take a look

Duolingo is definitely amazing.

I want to be a translator as my career and this site has made me realise i am really in the right line of work as this site puts it all to the test and how much progress it allows people to make in a short space of time is unbelievable, i get better everyday, it's become an addiction, I love it that much :P

Completely agree - I have spent the past week in northern Italy (trilingual Italian/German/Ladin) and am delighted by how much more I can understand and say after six weeks of Duolingo Italian and eight weeks of Duolingo German on top of my rusty 1970s school languages, compared with the same place this time last year. The big difference seems to be in my processing speed after all these lesson/skill practices - I can now understand and form much more sophisticated sentences at a speed that means I can listen to and join in some normal conversation.
