Hola a todos! Now that I finished my Spanish tree in Duolingo I'm curious to know what are some other ways that you're learning Spanish? In addition to continue to use Duolingo everyday I'm also doing the following:

*Listening to the Coffee Break Spanish podcast on iTunes

*Listening to the Spanish Obsessed podcast on iTunes (Colombian)

*Listening to the Spanish Notes podcast on iTunes (Madrid, Spain?)

*Reading several news sites after adding them to my Facebook feed (El Pais, ABC.es, LaVanguardia.com, La Gaceta, 20minutos.es, El Mundo)

*Watching lots of Spanish movies on Netflix with English subtitles (Amores Perros, Y Tu Mama Tambien, El Cartel, El Infierno, Instructions Not Included, El Cielo en tu Mirada, Valentin, Tambien la Lluvia)

*Watching American movies on Netflix in Spanish with English subtitles (Django Unchained, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Turbo)

*Attending local meetups for conversational Spanish (there are quite a few in San Francisco and everyone is super helpful!

What are some other things that you're doing if you're living in the US but trying to learn Spanish? Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

"Foto" es un sustantivo femenino porque es abreviatura de "fotografia", así que "la mejor foto" :-)

How do you get to level 25 on Spanish? I have just finished the tree at level 11. Is it a paid version with more content? Sorry, I'm new to duoLingo.

Duolingo has said it will never charge and there is not a paid version. Once you have 30000 points (XPs) in Spanish you'll get to Level 25. Even though you've finished your tree, you can continue to accumulate points by keeping your tree golden, by doing "Strengthen Skills", and by translating in the Immersion section.

This unofficial page explains gives a table of points needed for each level: http://duolingo.wikia.com/wiki/XP

It's not quite as motivating to keep going once you finish your tree, but I think it's still really helpful to review skills and fun and motivating to try to keep streak going and keep rising in the levels.

Also, @DuoCavallo, I think (not 100% sure) that when you review skills and strengthen skills new words and even concepts are introduced. Would be interesting to know if other people have noticed this.

You're right, it doesn't sound like fun after you finish the tree, and the tree can be finished very quickly, but I'll try all the suggestions given here. Anyway, thank you!

I think you finished your tree a lot faster than many people do if you finished it at level 11. Good work! Did you have previous experience with Spanish?

Another thing you can do to learn more, get more practice, and ramp up the motivation is the "reverse tree." I.e., change settings to indicate that Spanish is your native language and learn English (or other language) from there. It's scary to do that because you think you are losing your progress from your native language, but as soon as you change your native language back to the original you'll see your progress hasn't gone away. Doing the reverse tree has a slightly different focus and I think helpful. It's another tree to do so you get the motivation of that as well. (When I'm working on reverse tree, I find it helpful to changes settings to "no sound". That way they leave out the exercises that have me typing English while hearing English.)

Since you have Netflix, I highly recommend the app Hola Unblocker(hola.org), this allows you to change which countries Netflix you access. So, for instance, you could change to Netflix from Chile and watch movies with both Spanish Audio and Spanish Subtitles. I find I prefer this to English subtitles which I just end up reading without paying attention to the audio.

I second this recommendation! Hola is the best and Mexican netflix is pretty awesome!

cawrawr...one question... When I'm using Hola.org to switch Netflix to Chile I noticed that sometimes the subtitles don't always match what's being said. It's all Spanish audio and Spanish subtitles but sometimes they differ. Have you noticed the same thing? It's still WAY better than Spanish audio w/ English subtitles :)

Yeah I have noticed that, It's not just Netflix, every dubbed movie I've seen is like that. I think they have different people who write the subtitles from those that dub it and they don't always work together, haha

una mas pregunta... Is it worth it to pay for the Hola Premium service? Hola seems to work great during the day but at night it seems to have trouble connecting to servers. What is your experience with how well Hola works in the evening and are you paying for the premium service?

I do have premium but it's used more by other members of my family. I maybe turn it on once a month, if that, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help.

I have become good at reading Spanish but still find it hard to listen to Spanish speech. I watch Spanish TV, news mainly, some TV shows. Occasionally I'll come across parts where I can follow most of the speech, but that is the exception.

Congrats! The reverse tree is where I learned the most about Spanish grammar. I also use the SAP button on my TV and listen to a lot of Spanish audio. Disney, TNT, and FX have much of their programming transmitted with Spanish audio.
