I've been having between 6-12 skills decay every day for the last three days. What's up with that? Is that normal? One skill has been decayed every single day. Every day I strengthen it and the next day it's decayed again. Am I doing something wrong? What determines what makes a skill decay?

I'm on android.

Thanks for the help. Also, I have serious problems using Duolingo's website. Most pages load (slowly) but I can't review at all. I can open a review page but it won't load anything. I have everything on the page, the blue Duolingo ribbon at the top, the hill pictures on the bottom, a white box in the middle with quit, skip, and check options and a little progress bar at the top but nothing inside the white box. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!!!

If you get questions wrong, or if you don't practice every day, the skills decay faster. I feel like they are decaying faster than they used to, but to be honest since I never studied Italian before DuoLingo I need the review, so it hasn't bothered me that much. I get more irritated about it in Spanish.

Yeah, I really try not to peek but in some languages I just can't spell the words otherwise! I'm going to start making crossword puzzles eventually as spelling practice.

Crossword puzzles are a great idea! Maybe Bananagrams or Scrabble in your target language too? Que Onda has hangman in addition to other games, but you have to pay for larger vocab packs.

Good ideas! But yeah, basically any word game that requires the spelling to be right to get the right answer. I think crosswords would be pretty much ideal, because you fill in the answer wrong and another will be messed up.

Kinda wish there were games like that in the DuoLingo words section, but maybe someday :)

I think we can crowdsource this. I have 200 lingots with nothing to spend them on, and it looks like there are a few online crossword puzzle maker sites. Proof of concept for ropa word list. Not the best UI, but the first one that didn't require making an account.

I wonder if the decay rate is related to the fact that you're using the smartphone. I know the way the lessons or units are divided can differ slightly between the website and the devices, usually by being exposed to fewer words or repetitions in the app version than the website. Maybe it's just not getting enough exposure for the algorithm to work?

This might be useful if you haven't seen it already. Perhaps the conversation there or on his blog covers differences with the apps.

I'm not sure what to suggest with your website issues. I assume you've tried restarting your browser, clearing your cache, or even trying a different browser?
