  5. Duo goes to Iran!

Duo goes to Iran!

Duo is just back from his trip to Belgium. He's had an absolutely marvelous time, seeing many beautiful and famous places, drinking Belgian Ales and eating many fries.

Now Duo is sitting in his comfy armchair, in his lavish Pittsburgh office. Luis sits in another armchair, opposite Duo, as Duo gives his report of Belgium. Eventually, they decide that Flemish and Walloon should be added to the Incubator.

Luis leans back in his armchair, puffing his Guatemalan cigar. "Duo", he says, "I want you to go out again. To Iran, Duo! I've been hearing such great things about this place, and I want to find out if this place is really as great as they say it is!"

Duo, of course, prepares to go immediately. He packs his bags, checks on the Incubating courses, and flies out of the Pittsburgh International Airport.

On the plane, he takes a look at a map of Iran, and plans his trip!

Duo's plane lands in Tehran, the capital of Iran. He grabs some Kebab to go, and takes a look at the sites, flying around Azadi Tower.

Duo drives with his guide to Bam, in South-Eastern Iran, to visit Arg-é Bam, the largest Adobe building in the world! The origin of the fortress can be traced back to the Achaemenid period (6th to 4th centuries BC). Duo, fascinated by history, enjoys flying around the citadel of the fortress!

Duo's heard a lot about Persian poetry, so he decides to make a trip to the Tomb of one of the greatest and most famous Persian poets: Ferdowsi.

Now Duo heads for Isfahan. Isfahan is the third largest city in Iran, and certainly one of the most beautiful!

First, Duo flies over Naqsh-e Jahan Square, one of the largest squares in the world!

Then, Duo goes does to the Zayanderud river, and crosses the Khaju Bridge, one of the finest of the many bridges in Isfahan!

Finally, Duo travels to Persepolis, the former capital of one of the most powerful and important empires in history: the Achaemenid Empire!

Duo drives back to Tehran, and hops on a plane back to Pittsburgh. The next morning, he heads to his Pittsburgh office, where Luis sits in an armchair, sipping bourbon.

"Well, Duo, how was it? Was it as great as it's made out to be"?, Luis asks.

"Luis", Duo responds, "It was better than I ever possibly could have dreamed!!!"

Luis promptly adds a Persian course to the Incubator.

And that's how Duo went to Iran, and Persian was made available on Duolingo!

Never knew Iran is such beautiful country. I hope that Farsi will be added in the near future. There really seem to be lots of people interested in this course. Thanks for the post. ;)

If only I had wings, like the song by Japanese singer Kanon.

I could fly to all those wonderful places with Duo and help out (take pictures, carry the lunch bag, practice Persian). Great photo of the famous green owl on the Khaju Bridge.
