Problem in l'imparfait (French for English speakers)

I am having so many problems with the translations for l'imparfait because most of the "correct" solution are in conditional or they make absolutly no sense gramically in English. I have been reading in the comments sections that there will be a similar problem for passe compose. Can someone please fix this? When I say "je ne voulais pas cette voiture" I am pretty sure it tranlsates into English as I did not want this car, not I would not want this car (that's past conditional). J'ai beaucoup de problems avec les translations pour l'imparfait parce que plus de vrais phrases sont dans le conditionnel ou ils n'ont aucun sens. Je lirais dans dans les commentaires qu'il seront une probleme similaire avec la Passe Compose. Si vous plait, quelqu'un peut resoudre ceci? J'ai une exemple dans l'anglais. I really hope this is fixable and not just me going crazy, I am in no way fluent in French but I am pretty sure there is a problem here, I am at least fluent in English and I am pretty darn sure that a lot of l'imparfait translation are completly incorrect.

“Would” is not only conditional in English; it is also used to express the past habitual, e.g. “When I was younger, I would take the bus to get to work.” The latter usage corresponds to the French imperfect.
