A chat feautre with fellow Duolinggo users

For those who don't have facebook friends on this site, it would be great to meet people in Duolinggo to help you out and exchange knowledge by chat. This is safer because we don't even need to give out our personal information and usernames in skype and other apps to be able to communicate with them!

I'm pretty proud of my idea smug face

There is a simpler way to communicate in the targeted language that you are learning. The site is called Verbling.

You have the option to buy private lesson given by teachers and you have the option to join chat room via Google + Hangouts with member from all over the world.

It's a great site, besides being free, it's easier to overcome the fright of speaking the language since there isn't only you and your ''partner'' there are at least 5 people in the same room in a given moment.

And for those who don't like to give out their Skype information or Facebook, this site is the best choice out there when it comes to communicating with people from different countries.

Most people on the site, approximately 90% are there to learn a language so you don't need to bother about creepy people.

Hope this helps.

What are the other ten percent doing? O.o

Hahaha =D

Well, you do encounter some strange fellows sometime. :D

But you have this kind of people everywhere.

For example, last night, there was this guy, apparently he was drunk and was talking by himself, we could not talk because of him..

So.. yeah, you still find some of this guys.. =)

You can kick those guys out of the conversation though.

I really enjoy Verbling for practicing my speaking/listening. I've spoken Spanish with people from all over the world. Once in a while you have some adolescent kids run through hitting on anyone with a hot female photo for their avatar, but for the most part it's supportive, helpful, encouraging, respectful... really a good site.

Thanks for the tip! :)

"And for those who don't like to give out their Skype information or Facebook, this site is the best choice out there when it comes to communicating with people from different countries." Wouldn't I be giving out my Google Hangouts information instead?

Ok, I don't want to be rude.

But come on, let's give it a break with all this hysteria about giving your information, you are watching too much movies.

With this atitude, to be honest you aren't going to become fluent since speaking is a big part of the process.

Have you heard about the magic process of creating an email with fake information, a fake photo, and with a fake Hangouts profile? Well, problem solved.

I support this idea, it is one of the few things that could attract many people in my opinion.

Of course, then there would need to be a blocking feature for weirdos. :P

How to create a Google Hangout so that you can post the URL here and get folks to practice with you. No sharing of userids necessary. http://duolingo.wikia.com/wiki/Conversation_Practice_with_Google_Hangouts

This would be a wonderful feature and I've seen it suggested a couple of times before.

Can't wait to see what cool features Duo adds in the future! :)

HelloTalk is a pretty good chat system for learning languages

Verbling closed their chat rooms, but a resourceful former user programmed a nearly identical interface free4talk.com. Would love more German Spanish and Esperanto speakers to drop in. (and don't jut cruise by and lament the preponderance of English rooms...start a room to get things going!)

Learn a language in just 5 minutes a day. For free.
