Why can I only learn English from Dutch?

I'm Dutch, but practically fluent in English. I really want to learn French, but when I selected Dutch as my main language I saw I could only learn English. So now I have English as my main language to learn French, which makes it significantly harder to know what I'm doing because things like consonants and nouns and stuff... they're all new to me. I know what they are in Dutch, but I constantly have to translate hard words before I can use them.

So maybe practising English is not so bad, of your English is insufficiƫnt for a Duolingo course. The same problem her, from English to Swedish is probably more difficult than from Dutch to Swedish.

I have the same problem. I am also Dutch and started a course Italianen. It is a little bit harder, but otherwise I try to practisch my Englisch better this way. It is the way it is. And when I really don't understand an Englisch word, I always use the translater (in an other app) Good luck

hopefully they come out with some more languages from Dutch in the future, I am a native English speaker currently learning Dutch and after reading about the benefits of laddering I'm a little disappointed that I will have to wait to try learning a new language from Dutch

I love your mentality. I am Dutch and I learned French from English. Now I am also learning Spanish from French. I'ts so much easier because the languages correspont better. I would like the same with Dutch - German. It's not the same to have to learn from English.

@JulievanderStaak: It's much more effective to learn French from English than from Dutch AND you will drastically improve your English in the process ... It might not be more efficient, but weerstand is leerstand ;-) That's what makes it so effective

I agree! Hope there will be other languages available soon for native Dutch speakers. Would be very much appreciated Duolingo! :-)

JulievanderStaak Kan kloppen, want er zijn nog heel weinig cursussen. De meeste cursussen zijn nog i de ontwikkelingsfase.
