my 169 day streak ends today.

today my streak ended at 169 days. I do not know why! the day flew by and i had 25 minutes left to get in my 20 pt daily goal, usually not a problem. i did 3 lessons which should have yielded me a minimum of thirty points, but only received 19 pts. I am in shock . Yes I waited to the last minute to do my daily lesson, not the first time. Why did duolingo not give me 10 points per session as it always had??? There is a lesson to be learned here dont wait till last minute, duolingo could throw you a curve ball...Lesson two, do not cry over spilt milk, life goes on. I finished my tree more than a month ago and I am in the process of making it golden. I will continue. I read discussions regularly and must have missed somthing, anybody else see a scoring change for lesson completed .

Yes, they threw you a curve ball. Strengthening lessons now does not always yield the full 10 points. I don't know what the reason is. It doesn't endanger my streak because I have my coach goal set to 1xp, which I recommend for everyone. But I'm so so sorry about you losing your streak. I know how badly that can hurt. Have some lingots to console you. =(

A streak is just a number, don't lose any sleep over it! Often times we confuse 'streaks,' and levels and lingots with learning spanish. I'd lose my streak in a minute, to have a day practicing Spanish in country!

Well said davloose, actually I slept great after stewing for about 10 minutes. The streak is part of the addiction that I think language learning can become. Obviously I'm speaking to the choir. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate the forum of like minded people...

It's their new scoring model they are evaluating, it really sucks in my opinion... you can never predict how much you'll gain by doing a certain lesson and therefore you cannot set a daily XP goal reliably.

It tries to take into account how much review those words you're learning needed at the given time.. but since they often get it wrong and assume i already know words which i'm still struggling with in the end all it does is to belittle my efforts.

Thanks for your response lenix de. I was shocked yesterday when my expectations were not met and it cost me my streak. I'm not mad at the duolingo for any of the changes, nothing is perfect, but duo does a good job. Change is helpful sometimes even bad change. I think it helps to keep us from becoming complacent...

Yeah, I don't mind too much that practicing something I've already mastered only gives me, e.g., 3 points, but consistency is key. Maybe complete a new lesson = 10, complete a completed-but-not-gold = 6, and practicing a gold = 3, or something along those lines.

I admire your attitude to the unpleasant situation. That hasn't happened to me yet, and I hope it doesn't in the future. Have a lingot for your troubles! :)

For those days you're to busy, buy one and come back the next day. But be sure to buy another one as a back up.
