Unable to progress on iPhone

I am learning Swedish through the Duolingo app on my iPhone. I have gotten about 1/2 way through the course, and once I try to start a new level/section, my phone says "Could not connect to Duolingo : Try starting the session again." Frustrated, I wait a few days and nothing changed. Then I head online, where my lesson is ready to go. I complete it - unlocking 2 more available sections on my phone, which I still can't access! Help please! Tack :)
