This is another one of those questions that leave you asking, staan or liggen?

I'm guessing "is" is okay but not perfect, and "staan" if it's on the wall, or "liggen" if it's on the table, but I would like a native Dutch speaker to tell me if I'm right or not.

A clock 'staat' on the ground (you know, that big type of a clock), or on a table (a smaller type of clock, e.g. an alarm clock), or 'hangt' on a wall. A clock 'ligt', when it's lying flat, on e.g. a table.

In Afrikaans a "klok" is also a bell. What is a bell in Dutch please?

Then both clock and bell should be an acceptable translation from Dutch to English...
