Made a mistake and tried to sign up for German. Now what?

I wanted to take the German for English speakers course. Big mistake. Now my French course has disappeared.

This troubleshooting page that we are looking at here shows me as subscribed to both French and German. But when I go to edit subscriptions, it only shows the German course. There is no option available to change courses. I had just completed a group in French, went to the home page to go to the next group and Duo took me to beginning German.

If I have to choose between the progress I have on the French side or starting the German tree, I will keep working on the French. But I need to know how to get the French back. I can always get German by creating a brand new account with a different username.

Do you mean English for German? If so: Do not fear! Your progress IS NOT GONE All you need to do is return to the English speakers section (tell me if you do not know how to do that) and voila Your French progress is back (and your German progress is gone) The reason: Duolingo only supports one source language at a time. Hope this helps. Happy learning!

Thx for your response.

The course I signed up for is German for English speakers. It is in German and intended to teach German to English speakers. The French course, that I was already taking is in French and intended to teach French to English speakers.

I don't know where or how to find the English speakers section that you refer to.

What I wanted to do was to take two languages (French and English in my case) simultaneously. I know this is possible to do under a single account because others, such as yourself, are doing so.

At any rate, I just want to get my French back and I will open up a new account to get the German.

Possible it is! Just go here when you click on the French symbol, you will return to French for En To return to EN-DE, just hover above the language symbol in the top bar, click add a new course, on the drop down bar, select "I speak German", and click on the course you wnat. Reverse that to return to English courses.

Thx. Your suggestion worked for me. All the more amazing, since my last comment confused the issue even more. I typed I wanted to take French and English when I should have typed French and German. How could not have noticed my glaring mistype is beyond me.

I see that the home page tool bar displays the language symbol beside my image/username. Mousing over the language symbol offers me the link to any language tree that I am taking (plus the option to add others)

When I was taking only one language the language symbol was meaningless. When taking more than one language it becomes the navigation tool between languages. I'm surprised that after all this time I hadn't become aware of its true function, even if I didn't need it personally.

I have completed the French tree a couple of times and now just try to keep it gold. Losing my progress would mean another repeat of the entire tree.

Issue resolved. Thanks for your help.
