Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

Any WoW players wanting to push their Spanish (or English)?

Hello duo!

If any World of Warcraft players are out there who want to apply their Spanish skills, WoW is a great place to do so. You can change the language (text and audio) to Spanish in the game settings.

Anyways - I'm looking to get a group of people together to play (preferably 10 people for raiding). We can enforce 100% spanish speaking at all times. Alternatively, if we can get 5 native spanish speakers and 5 native english speakers, we could alternate languages on different nights to help both sides.

Let me know if you're interested!

Forgot to mention - we would use Ventrilo or a similar program for voice chat, of course.

That's a very interesting idea! I use MMOs myself for this same purpose (I practise my German a lot via EVE Online). I'd love to try this out for WoW. That said, it's been years since I've played it seriously. Just out of curiosity, are you on EU or NA servers? Unless something's changed since I played (quite possible), EU/NA players won't be able to play with each other so it's important to know for this idea.

On another note, instancing is gonna be hilarious with 5+ people struggling in their target language to communicate in the heat of the moment. :P

American players can switch their languages to Spanish or Portuguese now. No EU servers necessary.

Oh, I didn't know they couldn't do that in the first place! :P Not what I meant however; I was bringing it up because which region BrandonEar1 is using matters if we are to know whether we could join him or not since the servers are, or at the very were when I last played, region-locked based on where your account was registered.

My bad, darlin. Sorry for misunderstanding.

idshanks: You can now choose which region you want to play in. There are three Latin American servers. But they now support cross-realm grouping. So realms really don't matter that much any more except for guild members must share the same realm. We can group together no matter what realm.

If I still played WoW, I'd totally do this. But I don't have the time or the money for it anymore. :(

Did you ever try Dota 2? It's free and has a large global community.

BTW, I would suggest trying to join a Spanish server. I believe you can find a quick cheat-sheet for "speaking" on WOW Spanish servers. You won't have to worry about enforcing Spanish speaking. .

I am currently playing on a Latin American server, Ragnaros. Care to join?

I would but WOW isn't in my budget right now. I play most of my games en español, mainly on Steam (PC). How much is the current subscription rate for WOW? ($15 or $20)

Curious, have you read "Second Language Pragmatic Socialization in World of Warcraft" Soares Palmer, Dionne (Ph.D. Dissertation, University of California)?

Thanks for mentioning that dissertation! I've just had a glance at it, but it seems highly interesting to me, and I suspect I'll really enjoy giving it a proper read. :)

I'm still reading it. It has a lot of useful quick phrases that you can use online (in a MMRPG) or offline.

i'll get in on that, assuming you mean the latin american realms rather than a euro spanish realm, cuz i'm on the NA client. i have toons on a brazilian realm where i hang out sometimes to practice portuguese but i could probably start doing that in spanish as i'm nearly half through the tree.
