Why is this not, "Der Juli ist toll," like other sentences, such as, "Der Mai ist perfekt."?
My birthday is in July, of course es ist toll! :D
Toll is German for fun. Why is it wrong?
I would say "toll" is more like "great" or "wonderful". "Macht Spaß" would be "fun" :)
You are completely right Marieke.
Juli is also a female first name
Maybe a short form of Julia or Juliane
Like the English "June" or "May" or even "April".
My fifty-year-old dictionary translates "toll" as crazy, absurd, foolish. Fortunately I have heard differently nowadays.
My birthdays in july so yes its good
JULIA Sounds like JULI!
It's a very good translation as it is. Fun is something specific like "Spaß", toll is a general statement. Just like "July is great" and "July is fun" are different.
Reminds me of the movie: Im Juli
How am I supposed to know whether it says Juli or Juni?
The slow audio is identical to the fast audio.
Still not clear to me why "Der Juli" is incorrect.
The article is missing in the German sentence - "Der Juli ist toll" is the usual German phrase.
