The hotel-example is fine. Image we would speak about trees. There are different trees, there are different sorts of trees and different sizes of trees of the same sort.
- "Unterschiedlich" tells us there are differences between the trees but the differences could be the different size or sort or in autum their different colors or their different ages.
- "Verschieden" tells us the trees are not the same. "Verschiedene Bäume" could be the same sort, the same age, ... but it is not said, that the trees are the same sort, the same age, the same size.
A package of eggs is a good example, too. The eggs look identical, so we would say "verschiedene Eier". At Easter your children decorate the eggs. The eggs become Easter eggs and then the eggs will hopefully look "unterschiedlich". One is blue, the next is red, the other egg is green-yellow striped, ...

"Es gibt" se usa en sentido más general.
