Linguanati, the most secret polyglot society of the world

I created a secret polyglot society, the goal is to gather most talented polyglots around the world into a community and as a group get the world interested about languages and learning different languages.

This is going to be a movement ! the nerds and programmers have Anonymous, we polyglots would have Linguanati. We will go to Ted talks and our own inspirational language talks, we will build our headquarters Babel Tower somewhere also. We will inspire the world and create a hype around us, that's why we create a mystical atmosphere around us.

I need to find other delusional, language obsessed and ambitious polyglots as members. So tell me if you are what I'm looking for.

Did you just mention language obsessed? I'm in!

You know, maybe we should have a list of like the top 20 books everyone should have read in all languages, and read passages from the originals to kick off our meetings, or something. Sort of like a short encapsulation of all human wisdom in the language in which it was originally written. Really, anyone who truly wants to call themselves educated should have read these things at the very least. Don't you think? (We linguanati are nothing if not elitist. =D)

What books would you put on a list like that?

 • I think I'd put the Bhagavad Gita in Sanskrit there,
 • and the Tao Te Ching in Chinese (Is it Mandarin?),
 • the Analects of Confucious
 • and probably The Art of War (If people are still reading it and talking about it after 3000 years, it probably belongs on the list.)
 • The Iliad in Greek, for sure,
 • and maybe the Odyssey.
 • I also would like to nominate the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings in English.
 • and something from Shakespeare, but what?
 • And also The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky in Russian.
 • The Death of Ivan Ilych by Tolstoy.
 • Le Petite Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery in French
 • Perhaps Les Miserables from Victor Hugo too?
 • Maybe the Epic of Gilgamesh? Or is that too many epics?
 • The Tibetan Book of the Dead, maybe? (I'm perusing lists now and came across that one that I haven't even read yet.)

What else? We need something from Igbo, Latin, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Japanese, Swahili, etc. etc. (Someone else needs to work on this because my Amazon budget for the month is completely blown now. =D)

 • "Book of Coming Forth by Day" or "Book of Emerging Forth into the Light" (in hieroglyphs)
 • Don Quixote
 • Cien Años de Soledad
 • 源氏物語 (The Tale of Genji)
 • 吾輩は猫である (Soy un Gato)

¡y Esto! - كتاب ألف ليلة وليلة‎ - Las Mil y Una Noches

Excellent additions to the list! I second them all. I have to read I am a Cat right now. Amazon budget be damned!

The Aeneid is a great Latin epic poem by Virgil. Very popular within the Latin community!

All of our secret documents such as our constitution and bylaws, minutes of our secret meetings, and all stuff intended for internal society use only, could be written in a code that consists of one phrase or sentence each in about 10 or 20 different languages, rotating continually between them. Thus, the secrecy will be in service to the language learning, and vice versa. So I see English, Igbo, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Italian covered between us. What other languages will we use as part of our standard canon? French, Irish, Greek, what else? (Some of your flags aren't familiar to me, Don.) Or do we just throw the door wide open and not limit ourselves?

March 10, 2015

Our constitution and bylaws will be written on pergaments and they are stored in a secret safe. They are written in the languages of the 10 high priests in 50 languages, so that we need all the 10 high priests to read all the documents.

I have another proposal: that we include Averting Human Extinction as one of our minor goals. I'm sure most of the aims and business of our secret society will have to do with languages, spreading polyglotery, saving endangered languages, developing the most successful and easiest language learning methods, and so on, but as a side project, would it maybe be a good idea to avert human extinction too? Because otherwise all these lovely languages will probably go extinct when we do. I don't want to dominate the conversation, but what do you, (the other members) think of that idea?

March 10, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Don_Cristian

Wow Tatiana, I like you :D Great ideas. Especially that book list was very good, I have read many of those but not in their native language.

The unknown and secretive leader of our group said that these are our goals:

 1. Averting human extinction by polyglotery
 2. Saving endangered languages
 3. Developing the most powerful language learning methods

We need also a Linguanati Manifesto, which we release, it will contain the main principles of our actions.

In our secret meetings we will use hoodies and masks like anonymous but the masks are in the colors of our native languages or something :D

I sent you a reply on e-mail, we'll talk more there and fb !

Brilliance! I certainly count when it comes to delusional. On #2, I'd be willing to learn Karelian and Hutterisch. :D

March 10, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Don_Cristian

So if you have to rate yourself from 1-10 how delusional are you ? and second, are you learning or just willing to learn ? You seem promising but there are strict conditions to be a member of the most secret and amazing polyglot society. Our supreme leader, me and our 1st high priest have very high requirements.

March 10, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/snrailing

Ah, I realize what high standards to which I am being compared. I'm quite delusional. Probably around an eight or nine on the delusion scale. I would be willing to learn the aforementioned tongues. I am working on Spanish and Swedish as well.

March 10, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Don_Cristian

What special skills do you have ? How many languages do you speak or you're learning ? rate your delusionalism between 1-10 if 10 is pol pot

March 10, 2015

Languages: English, Spanish, Swedish, lolcat. Willing to learn: Hutterisch and Karelian. I would like to say that languages are a special skill, but I digress. On second thought, I don't even have FB, so...?

hahaha I cannot stop laughing! Sensei! I am still jeune in learning and have not reached the aptitude level of diez languages but I have serious delusions of power (hontoni! watashi bakabakashi) and am fascinated with languages. Ich aspire to be one of you, if there is a test or trial I will take it. It is said that when Chengis Khan and his uomini used to sleep on winter nights, when they woke, their hair used to be stuck to the ground having frozen overnight. Such is my perseverance, I implore of you! شكرا!

P.S Maybe all passages to be read must written in an intricate mix of languages that could only attest and support the awesomeness and greatness of the people in this movement.

Don't worry, the Holy Polyglot Dictator has the power of seeing the future, he saw you speaking more languages than even the holy ghost from bible.

You have a passage test, if you pass it you will be invited in the Linguanati fb-group. You have to answer to my e-mail (polyglotlegend@gmail.com) on these questions, with explanations !!:

 1. How does a one hand clap sound like ?
 2. How can polyglotism save the whales ?
 3. How many souls do polyglots have ?

Ooo!! A secret polyglot society. Intriguing. I would assume there would be an extensive selection process for potential members & elaborate initiation ceremonies (of course)... Would regalia colors be designated by rank (or number of languages mastered)?

March 10, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Don_Cristian

The selection process is veery demanding. If you know Timothy Doner, he is in the selection process still. You need to meet 3 requirements. You have to be a polyglot, you have to be very grandious and megalomanic person and you have to have something special that adds value on the society of which the user is part, it can be a skill or personality trait.

the regalia colors are designated by number of languages, but this doesn't include the highest 12 members which are the from top to bottom: 1. the holy supreme polyglot leader (unknown), 2. me, then the 10 high priests, after these the rest of the 59 members will get their rank by mastered languages.

The hierarchy structure is like a pyramid.

March 10, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TatianaBoshenka

In fact, it's rumored that some members of the Linguanati originally designed pyramids, later traces of which can be seen in both Egypt and the Americas.

March 10, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Don_Cristian

this is why our logo is a pyramid which has a tongue in the upper part which is floating above the part underneath it. It also glows. The upper piece of the pyramid represents our current almighty leader with his all talking tongue.

People like Mezzofanti, Farshiah, Tesla and other great polyglots of the history have been members of this secret society too. This is a unique chance to get in.

I'm in. Well, I hope i'm in. I am delusional, obsessed and ambitious about languages.

March 10, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Don_Cristian

This is an elite polyglot secret society led by an authoritarian dictator, what makes you the right person for our society ? Explain more why you're delusional and obsessed about languages ?

March 11, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/GC1998

Well, I like grammar, which seems strange. I like how languages work. I'm learning all the languages on Duolingo (concentrating on Italian at the moment), I study French and Spanish at school (aged 16) and learn plenty of languages at home in my free time.
I know i'm delusional because a lot of the time I will have a conversation with myself in different languages. (It's fun though)

What classifies as a polyglot to join?

March 11, 2015

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Don_Cristian

You are obsessed about languages, you learn preferably more than 10 languages and a crazy personality is required too that stands out of the mass.

The holy polyglot dictator liked your blog, he said he felt great "force" in you that can be beneficial for us. Send me email if you're devoted enough to be part of this elite polyglot secret society. polyglotlegend@gmail.com
