Native speaker. 'Pigen var ved at blive kold' would only be used about a corpse or some other atypical situation and never as casually as 'The girl was getting cold' wouldbe used in English.

Klart, jeg mener nu stadig at man godt kan bruge 'at blive kold'. Hvis jeg fx har været ude og bade i havet, ville jeg sagtens kunne finde på at sige, at jeg var blevet lidt kold. Men 'at begynde at fryse' burde selvfølgelig også være en valid oversættelse
