tu is informal, meaning you say it to your friend or something, and usted is formal, meaning you say it to somebody you don't know, or someone like a boss.

"Tú" is informal. "Usted" is formal. Everything depends on the confidence with the person. For example: When you meet a someone is common to say "usted" " ¿como esta usted"? Or you say "usted" because there is a respect.

Saying "Tú" is common between friends or people you know well. For example: i Hola ! ¿ Como estas tú?

My English is not good ,so I hope that you can understand me.

Everybody pretty well covered this. The only other thing I would add is when speaking to someone new and you're not sure which one to use, always start with usted.

tu is informal, for friends and people you know well. Usted is formal, for people you'd call sir or Mrs/Miss/Ms

If you would call someone "maám", "sir", "Mr.", or "Ms." then use usted, otherwise use tú.

Unless you're in Argentina, in which case you switch to 'vos'. :-)

The meaning of tu and usted is pretty much the same, they both mean you. Usted is formal though, used for elders and strangers. Tu is casual, you would use it to great a friend or family member.
