The Var is very confusing haha I thought it's 'where' and took a minute to realise it isn't

I keep doing that as well

Is SOM an all-purpose relative pronoun - who, whom, which, that?

How can we tell if the "var" being used is meant as "was" or "where"? I thought it said "Where is the report that you wrote?"

You can tell by the context. Does "was" or "where" fit best:

"... it you who wrote the report?"

Can I say "vem" instead of "som" as well?

vem is not used as a relative pronoun, we use som for that instead.

Will always the subject pronouns follow the construction "de + att vara"/"att vara + det"?

Why not "Var det dig..."?

Because "du" is a subject and "dig" an object.
