Variable points being awarded for strengthening skills?
It seemed that when I first began strengthening skills under the new learning perspective (no more three heartbreaks and you fail) and I was awarded 10 points every time. Recently I've been receiving less than 10 even though I've correctly translated every sentence. Granted, the award for less than ten is for easy translations. Has anyone else noticed this variable grading?
Yes, this is a change and many do not like it. The app still awards ten points.
Hi, thanks for your reply. After searching in Discussions a bit I found the letter to the Community from Luis as well as one started by a member who had many revisions he wanted to see. I believe some members commenting back to him addressed the new teacher-student interface. That seemed to explain a lot of "bad" edits to Immersion translations I've been encountering recently; one first tier member's edit was to simply put the letter "a" in front of my two translated sentences. Another wrote some random lower-case letters in front of a translation, as well. I suppose they receive at least one XP for each edited sentence, regardless of whether it made sense or not. Now I believe it was probably a student who needed XPs as some class requirement or bonus system. At any rate, it seems fair to receive less than 10 points for very simple translations. I have learned so much Spanish on Duolingo and I prefer the strength bar over the hearts method.
Yep, and some folks that are more interested in XPs than learning a language are having a fit about it. ;)
Hi, Thanks for your reply. I tried to find a previous discussion, but apparently used wrong keywords to search for it. Are there any discussions you can refer me to? It's always so interesting to be on Duolingo. I'm really liking the new method; it's more encouraging because you always get points even though it may take more than 17 translations to earn the reward.
