"Dochreidte", the first Irish word to sound Russian (to someone who doesn't speak Russian...).
Actually, when I played a recording of a person speaking a very traditional gaeltacht dialect to a friend, he said it sounds like Russian :D
I think it's the slender consonants as well as the "ch."
For fun, I tried to transliterate "dochreidte" into Cyrillic and I typed it into Ivona...it actually sounds strikingly similar :P Докрэтэ
It would be more like дохрэдче (I speak Russian) :)
Thanks. I think I could figure out Irish pronunciation much more easily if the words were also written in Cyrillic.
Do you complain when Italian's pronounce "ciao" as "chow" or when "Paris" and "Francais" don't have a "s" sound in French?
