I Hate the Music

Dear Duolingo, the music in Duolingo is the most annoying thing ever. It's okay by itself but I cannot find the "off" button and it muffles the voice. I'm not sure if it's in Duolingo or just playing on my iMac for some reason, but if it's Duolingo's fault then I sort of hate it. Just make it easy to access the "off" button. Pleeeeeeease.

There is no background music in Duolingo. It must be some other program or website causing this.

Oh god, this is getting weird. I'm gonna have to investigate because the music plays on as I speak! :(

I Thought you were going crazy

Nah, I think the problem does not lie in my sanity

Don't despair! Go to Settings (The Cogwheel Image beside the Duolingo Search Bar) - Look for 'Sound Effects' - Turn it off using the checkbox.

Oh, really? I thought that was for turning off the little "beep BEEP" when you get a question correct. I'll give it a shot.

Ah, I thought that's what you were talking about. There's no background music for Duolingo (Well not that I know of).

Really? It was playing on my iMac and iTunes wasn't even set up. It just randomly turns on when I'm on Duolingo and turns off when I close out. It's a loop, so it definitely sounded like website music.

LOL! That's really weird! Try restarting your computer, or clearing your cookies. What kind of music is it? Scott Joplin?

It's, yeah, really weird, and it's a jingly sort of, well, it's not music that you'd listen to on iTunes or buy or anything like that, it's just like outdoorsy, yeah, that's the word, music in a loop. Maybe I got some kind of half-update?

I really doubt they'd add background music, it's one of those "Not-Done" things on the interwebs :) maybe it's a good idea to run a malware/spyware scan on your computer.

Yeah, Skye07 has a point. You could have some kind of malware. If you don't have a good virus scanner, you can use Avira Free Antivirus - it's completely free, and can protect your computer in real-time.

If you want to get it, be sure you get the free version:

I strongly suggest restarting the computer and clearing your cookies, as well. Make sure you don't have any other tabs open that could be causing the problem.

If you still can't get rid of the music, either have a computer expert look at it, or let me know. I might be able to find a different solution.

Okay. I'm gonna log back out and then log back in (suggested by fourarmsfan13579) and if it's still not off I'll check for malware or spyware. Thanks guys!

Have you tried logging out and logging back in?

No, but I will give that a shot :D

Just in case it's still there if you turn your PC off. http://www.tinnitus.org.uk/pages/199

Thank you so much for the help :D

I have awful background tune too ! It's on some sort of loop and is driving me crazy :(

Do you still have this issue?

Nope. It went away two or three days after I made this post.
