Duolingo says the correct solutions are "The duration is of an hour"(2 google hits) or "The duration is of one hour"(2 hits)It sounds pretty bad with that "of" in there though. "The duration is one hour"(168,000 hits) or "The duration is an hour"(256,000 hits) would be better.

I agree the "of" is weird. Native English speakers wouldn't say that.

Yeah, the "of" just sounds weird. No one talks like that. 'one' or 'an' hour is better

I noticed another sentence today that was translated with a stray unneeded "of" in it. The report form has a check box if the original sentence is wrong but it does not mention if that includes the translation. So I did not file a report. then or for this sentence. A lot of people have completed all the Spanish lessons it is a shame they have not submitted all the necessary reports to fix everything already.

Perhaps if the people who are doing the Spanish lessons now report consistently they will get better. It may still take time for them to get to things to fix them, though, hopefully they are doing it. They may also have to review things since some people might assume their answer is correct when it isn't.

I think that the English translation of this should be "The duration is for one hour." We don't say "of one hour." Either cut out the "of" or change it to "for" to make it a better English translation.

I don't like "for" here either. The point of the sentence is that the two things are semantic equivalents. This can be demonstrated by inverting the sentence. "The duration is one hour" -> "One hour is the duration". There is no room for "for" or "of" in an equivalence.

Are you sure that this sentence should be inverted like this? Isn't it more like "the duration is of one hour" => "one hour is what the duration is of". I mean, maybe it should be grammatically more like "the duration is of the summer" ... which is weird but possible to have a legitimate context.
