Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

The three life system (and bonus pts/lingots) have disappeared.

I'd done 1/6 of "occupations" level on Spanish when the bar at the top with three hearts (lives) was replaced by a continuous bar. Now I don't get the bonus points for lives left, or bonus lingot for completing a stage with all lives intact. Is this a setting, or a feature of the software...?

Thanks

This is an intentional change across the board as far as I'm aware. Duolingo is regularly changing, testing new things to see what helps us learn best. For a while, there was a test group operating without the hearts system. The pool Duolingo tested it with kept expanding. So, I think this is the full scale rollout signalling the success of that test feature. :)

Shame...the extra 2 or 3pts per module meant I could reach 50 in 4 modules some days...it was a "thing" I used to keep me focussed...and the lingots were handy too...handy for what, I'm not sure.

Looks like I can only do timed practice on a PC...I'm mainly a phone app user. Anyway, I'll have a go tonight...
