What's the difference between Schüler and Student?

Schüler is a pupil in the schools everyone has to go through (primary and secondary schools). A student visits a university or university of applied science.

We can compare it to PUPIL (who is a young child/person in school) and STUDENT (who attends college, a university or a school). See Merriam-Webster.

This one told me i was wrong by answering "the student is drinking water" vs "the student is having water."
