I only have the following in lingot store:

Power-ups Streak Freeze Double or Nothing

PRACTICE Timed PRACTICE Spanish Progress Quiz

Could it be that you have to be a certain level now?

I have no idea. That could be a possibility, I do know that a lot of people ask for lingots to get bonus skills and have zero idea of how difficult they are (not including you in that, these are mainly young students), so that could be a requirement.

But, I still wouldn't recommend them until you know a good amount of Spanish. I did them after I finished the tree and they still sucked. :P

I seriously think they need to move bonus skills way down the tree. People don't understand grammar well enough by the time they get to them, so they just end up memorising the sentence with no idea how it actually works.

Sounds like Duolingo is running A/B tests again. Either that or it's a bug. Is there still a place on your tree for bonus skills?

There is not bonus skills for me. I saw it before when I tried out duolingo. That is what got me, now that its gone. I didn't plan on getting it till down the road, but just wanted the option.

I'm sure someone will come by with an answer. Duolingo is famous for running A/B tests, I'll ask and see if anyone knows about this.

You have to finish the first 7-8 skills, I forget. Pass the first checkpoint and the spaces will show on the tree. I'm not sure about the store, I thought they were always there.

I just started the Spanish tree. The slots on the tree didn't show, and the skills were not in the store. Either you have to get to a certain point on the tree, or they are playing A/B tests again. :/

I checked with pinkodoug, a user here who is very knowledgable about what A/B tests are running on Duolingo. He doesn't think this should be an issue.

It seems that the slots in the tree, and the bonus skills themselves, should appear when you get a bit further through the course. Personally I wouldn't recommend doing them until much later anyway, as they introduce a lot of grammar you won't understand yet.

If the skills don't appear by the time you get to the first checkpoint you can post a question to the troubleshooting forum.

Could it be that you have to be a certain level now?

Possibly. I have them shown in the store for my English->Spanish course (level 25), but not for my Spanish->Portuguese (level 2). Although honestly, I'm not sure that the skills even exist for that course :)

What do you mean they may not even exist for the course? Why would they take down something they created?

Bonus skills are not created for every course, but there is at least one case of bonus skills being scrapped before the course released.

I mean that I'm not sure whether the skills were ever created for that course. They might not have ever existed.

They are not a big deal in any case. It would not be a reason to stop finishing your tree. I will follow this post to see if you can buy those lessons. Here is 5 lingots.

Thank you! Btw, everything is very cheap. Why are lingots so easy to get? HAHA
