Order of sentences
How do we know which word comes first in german language? For eg: we read the book together in german: gemeinsam lesen wir das Buch
Why not wir lesen das Buch gemeinsam or gemeinsam wir lesen das Buch ?
"Gemeinsam lesen wir das Buch" and "Wir lesen das Buch gemeinsam" are both correct.
"Gemeinsam wir lesen das Buch" is wrong because the verb has to be the second part of the sentence.
German is funny because the verb always goes in the 2nd position except when it doesn't :D
Hi Art-Vandelay is right. just to add syntax in german can be a bit tricky and it's a matter of time to get used to it like they say: Übung macht den Meister
In German, there are often many possibilities how to arrange the words in a sentence. This can change put emphasis on different aspects.
"Wir lesen das Buch gemeinsam." is pretty neutral. "Gemeinsam lesen wir das Buch." stresses the "gemeinsam" part more. This can be also done in English, I think - "Together we read" etc.
