Fler is for countable items, mer is for uncountable.

To me it sounds like she says 'Finns DU fler kandidater', but that doesn't make sense, right? Or is that a plausible way of pronouncing 'det' as well?

The audio is correct, but the t in det is commonly silent, so that might be the reason.

And you're right, it makes no sense. :)

I do realise extensions/last letters from words get muted in Swedish pronunciation (as they are in Dutch), but didn't really realise it here.
