Better choice would be "talks about", " explains about", or "speaks of". "Tells about" sounds very unnatural

that's right - "tell" needs an object, as in "tells us/them"

Actually, I think the better translation would be (rather epic sounding) "tells of violence in society". In everyday speech, we'd be much more likely to say "talks about violence in society", or even "gives a talk about violence in society"... But I suppose we're learning Danish, not arguing the finer points of UK English usage... :)
