Flash Cards

Hello DuoLingo staff,

Recently I started using the "flashcards" on this site to help me remember my vocabulary. It seemed like a program with a HUGE amount of potential. It really helped point out things I was doing wrong, but I noticed some things that could make it better. Those things are as follows:

The flashcards experience is too short. It forces users to restart the program if they want to keep using flashcards. I think that the program should not have a set end time like it has now, but rather the user should dictate when they feel they are done.

It would be nice if the up arrow key was a keyboard shortcut to flip the card, that way you could keep your hand in one place and not have to stretch it.

With the longer practice periods, I believe also that missed words should repeat. That way the program helps more where you need it.

Lastly, I noticed that some of the words I didn't know were individual words from phrases that I DID know. I think that these should not be in the flashcard set as individual, but rather be displayed as the full phrase. If not, then the meanings of individual words shout be taught, not just their meaning in the phrase.

Thank you for reading my post. If you have questions or comments please leave them below. Thanks, and I hope to see changes.

If you would like a longer or more modifiable flashcard experience, check out Quizlet and Memrise. Both have Duolingo-specific sets for those who are interested.

I like the idea of flashcards repeating. In one flashcard app I used to use (Brainscape), you could note how well you know the word and then the app would repeat the ones you said you didn't know as well.
